STATISTICS DAY CELEBRATIONS

Department of Economics, St. Paul’s college Kalamassery organized a ”Poster making competition” on 28/06/2022 as part of the National Statistics Day Celebrations. Many teams from different departments were participated.  Ms Nimmy George, Assistant professor of Statistics, was the faculty coordinator and Dr Sumitha Franklin, Head of the Department  has distributed the Cash prize to the winners.

'GET READY TO FLY'

A motivation class was organized by the Department of Economics, St Paul’s College, Kalamassery on 24th June 2022 at 11:45 am to 1:30 pm in the seminar hall. The session was coordinated by Fr. Shinto Varghese, Student, Department of Economics. The informal session started with a prayer song . The welcoming address was given by Dr. Sumitha Franklin, HOD / Faculty Coordinator, Department of Economics. Later, Inauguration was done by Principal Dr. Savitha K S and the Presidential Address was given by Director Fr. Felix Chullikkal.

This crucial informal session was headed by Fr. Noble John, Piarist Fathers, Aroor, (Former principal of Villa Nazareth English Medium School, Aryanad). The session was basically an interactive session where the speaker interacted with the students through stories. The session also focused on making the students build positive ‘self- esteem’ and discover their true potential. It covered the key elements required for a student to be successful in academics and later life.

Finally, Riham Haider Ali, final BA student of the Economics Department expressed his gratitude to the chief guest, teachers, students and all others who attended the session. More than 80 students of the Economics Department attended the same.

National Reading Day Observance Quiz competition

As part of the National Reading day observance, the department of Economics conducted a quiz competition on 20th June 2022 for the graduate and post graduate students.

Five groups, each consisting of two members participated the competition. The topics of the quiz were related to novels, poems and book awards . The competition was conducted in three separate rounds.

We were able to see an active participation from the students, which further elevated the competition. The quiz was observed as a fun and educational experience from the participants and even from the audience. The prime motive of the competition was to understand the level of reading undertaken by the students and to motivate them to enhance their reading habits.

Schola Brevis - DEEKSHARAMBH 2021

The inaugural ceremony of BA Economics 2021-24 Batch  SCHOLA BREVIS was conducted on 1st October 2021. The programme started with the blessings of almighty followed by the welcome speech by Asst Prof. Stalin P C. The oath taking was duly done by department head Asst Prof. Justine George. Rev Fr Joseph Antony Pallipparambil, Manager St Paul’s College Kalamassery Presided the function.The ceremony was inaugurated by the chief guest Sandeep Kumar IES. Attending this ceremony, the guest of honour inspired the students through his overwhelming speech on his academics and successful career. It was also accompanied with a question answer session for the students as well as for the teachers to clarify their doubts. Finally Asst Prof. Sibi K M offered the vote thanks to all. He thanked all the invited guests and participants for gracing the occasion with their solemn presence. He also thanked the final year economic students for providing all kinds of facilities to conduct this ceremony.

 

Webinar on ‘Skill Profiling for a Successful Future’

Departments of Economics In association with Placement Cell and Career Guidance and Department of Economics, St Peter’s College, Kolenchery organized a Webinar on Introduction to Civil Services  Examination on 17th July, 2021,Time: 3.30 pm via Google Meet. The Resource Person was Dr Gipson Varghese, Assistant Professor of Economics,St. Dominic’s College Kanjirappilly The Coordinators were Mr. Justine George, Asst. Professor and Head, Dept. of Economics, Mr. Stalin P C, Assistant Professor of Economics, St Pauls College Kalamassery, Dr. Jiji Eliyas, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, St Peters College Kolenchery. Dr. Gipson Varghese is currently working as an assistant professor of economics at St. Dominic’s College Kanjirappily. He received PhD in Economics of Education at University of Deusto, Spain under the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship, European Commission. He completed European Master in Policy and Management from the Institute of Education, University of London

Webinar on Career Options in Economics

Departments of Economics in association with office of the Dean, Training and development and Post Graduate Department of Economics St.Albert’s College Ernakulam organized a Webinar on Career Options in Economics on 17th July, 2021, Time: 10.00 am via Google Meet. The Resource Person was Mr. Naveen Hari, MSc Economics, Shiv Nadar University Noida. The Coordinators were Mr. Justine George, Asst. Professor and Head, Dept. of Economics, Mr. Siby K M, Assistant Professor of Economics. Dr. Neeraja James, Assistant Professor of Economics, St. Alberts College Ernakulam. Mr Naveen Hari is currently pursuing masters program in Economics from Shiv Nadar University, Delhi NCR. He is an aspiring economist with interests lying in the fields of Labor and Development Economics. He is the founder of the online portel Economiga – an initiative with the sole goal of connecting thousands of economist across the globe under a single bracket.

Departments of Economics in association with office of the Dean, Research organized a Webinar on Let’s Talks About Career on 12th July, 2021, Time: 9.30 am via Google Meet. The Resource Person was Dr. Anand Sasidharan, Director, WNS Global Service. The Coordinators were Mr. Justine George, Asst. Professor and Head, Dept. of Economics, Dr. Poornima N, Assistant Professor of Physics, St Pauls College Kalamassery. Dr. Anand Sasidharan received his doctorate in finance & accounting (F&A) from IIM Bangalore. He also holds MPhil, MA and BA degrees in economics from CDS, GIPE, and Maharaja’s College, respectively. Currently, he is positioned as the Director for an analytics division at WNS Global Services.

The Resource Person was Dr. Bijith George Abraham, Associate Professor, Marian International Institute of Management, The Coordinators were Mr. Justine George, Asst. Professor and Head, Dept. of Economics, Dr. Poornima N, Assistant Professor of Physics, St Pauls College Kalamassery. Dr. Bijith George Abraham is an Associate Professor at Marian International Institute of Management (MIIM). Dr. Bijith earned his Ph.D. from Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), Kerala. Before joining MIIM, he served as an Associate Professor and In-Charge for Research & International Affairs at SCMS Cochin School of Business, Kerala. He also served as Assistant Professor at the Centre for the Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy (CSSEIP), CUSAT; Assistant Professor at DCSMAT, Vagamon; and also with notable research positions at CUSAT. He has a total of 13 years of work experience, which includes 5 years of teaching and 8 years of research. He served noticeable role in identifying new research problems, research projects, empirical data analysis, and research reporting. He was also associated with various national/international research institutions for collaborative research projects.

Tough times can be better times

Departments of Economics in association with office of the Dean, Training and development organized a Webinar on Puzzles of fuel price hike in India on 29th June , 2021, Time: 10.30 am via Google Meet. The Resource Person was Rev.Fr.Dr. Vincent Variyath, Catholic Priest, Arch Dioceses of Verapoly. The Coordinators were Mr. Justine George, Asst. Professor and Head, Dept. of Economics, Mr. Siby K M, Assistant Professor of Economics. Rev. Fr. Dr. Vincent Variath is an Indian Catholic priest and currently serves under the Latin Archdiocese of Verapoly. He is a well-known motivational speaker, author, psychologist, poet and lyricist. He holds master degrees in History, Oriental History and English. He did PhD in psychology at University of Santo Tomas, Manila, Philippines.

The Resource Person was Mr. Nandu S Nair, Academic Associate, IIM K, The Coordinators were Mr. Justine George, Asst. Professor and Head, Dept. of Economics, Mr. Siby K M, Assistant Professor of Economics. Mr. Nandu S Nair is now currently working as an Academic Associate, IIM K. He completed Masters in Economics from Centre for Economic Studies and Planning (CESP), Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Discussants of the seminar were Mr. Naveen Hari, Masters programme in Economics (2020-22), Shiv Nadar University, Delhi NCR and Mr. Vinayakan Sajeev, Bachelor Programme in Economics (2019-22), SN College Kollam.

Kerala Revised Budget 2021-22 – An Analysis

Departments of Economics organized a Kerala Revised Budget 2021-22– An Analysis’ on 9th June , 2021, Time: 11.00 am via Google Meet. An exclusive webinar was organized by the Department of Economics, St Paul’s College, in association with Training and Development on the topic ‘Kerala Revised Budget 2021-22 – An Analysis’ scheduled on 9th June 2021 at 11:30am in its endeavors to empower students and staffs regarding budget and its possibilities. The session was coordinated by Fr. Raphael Shinoj, 1st MA Economics student. The session started with a prayer song by Annmol Wilson followed by welcome address by the coordinator of the program Prof. Stalin P C, . The inaugural address was given by the Prof. Sumitha Franklin, Vice Principal and felicitation by Prof. Justin George, HOD, Department of Economics. The crucial session was headed by Mr. Sajimon S, Research officer at District Planning Office, Alappuzha, who firstly commented on the current situation we are going through, that of Covid pandemic. He further went on to give a vivid outlook of the revised budget presented by the state.

Webinar on Herbal Garden in pandemic Times

Departments of English and Economics organized a Webinar on Herbal Garden in Pandemic Times on 9th June , 2021, Time: 10.30 am via Google Meet. The Resource Person was Dr. Gracy Mathew, Professor,  AMPRS, Kerala Agricultural University, Odakkali. The Coordinators were Deepa George, Asst. Professor and Head, Dept.of English, Dr. Sumitha Franklin, Vice Principal and Green Coordinators Dhanya B Abraham and Muhammed Suhail.The department of English maintains a herbal garden. So the students could get insights into how to maintain it better. The talk also inspired students to relax themselves preparing a herbal garden at home which would provide home remedies. The session also gave insights regarding the rich resources available in nature.

 

International  Girl  Child Day

 Department of Economics observed  International  Girl  Child Day  on October 11th 2019.  The department conducted an interdepartmental competition   on ‘Idea pitching on Girls/Women empowerment’.

IQAC, Department of Economics and Department of English jointly    organized   a one day workshop on ‘Gender sensitization –Girls force Unscripted and Unstoppable ‘ on 18/10/2019. Dr. Molly Kuruvila , Professor, Department women’s studies was the resource person .

Department of Economics, organized an Elocution Competition  on ’Relevance of Gandhian Thought in the Contemporary world’  in connection with 150th Birth anniversary Celebration of Mahatma Gandhi on 3/10/2019.
