INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLICANTS

1. Applicants who are applying for Community and Management quota can apply online.

2. Applicants belonging to the community LC/Anglo-Indian are eligible for community quota.

3. Applicants belonging to any community can apply for management quota.

4. After completing the online application, the applicant has to submit the following documents at the college office on or before the last date.

  • Print out of online application form duly signed by the applicant
  • Challan form – college copy
  • Copies of 10th and +2 Mark Lists
  • Copies of NCC/NSS/Ex. Service Certificates

Student who are applying for both community and management quota have to submit 2 copies of all the items listed above

HOW TO APPLY ONLINE

Start online registration using the “U.G. Admissions – Management / Community 2017” link given in the St. Paul's College website www.stpauls.ac.in

1. On opening the link, applicant has to register with a valid email id as user name and give a password.

2. Applicants are requested to remember their user id and password till the end of the admission process. There is NO option for resetting the password.

3. Successfully registered applicants are redirected to online application page, which has four steps

STEP 1:
1. Applicant has to fill the personal details.
2. Fill the community quota appropriately and choose the admission quota correctly (community, management or both)

STEP 2:
1. Applicant has to fill the educational qualifications.
2. Applicant can select three courses according to their priority.

STEP 3:
1. Applicant has to upload a recent passport size photo. Size of the photo must be less than 30 KB. (150Width x 200 Height)
2. Print the challan form.
Visit the nearest South Indian Bank branch and make the payment according to the printed challan form

STEP 4:
1. Enter the challan number and bank branch name
2. On clicking “Submit”, applicant can complete the online submission and print the filled online form.
Important - For completing the application process student has to submit the following documents at the college office on or before the last date.

Course Regulation-CBCSS

The duration of undergraduate programmes under CBCSS, is 3 years, which consists of 6 semesters. Each semester consists of 450 contact hours distributed over 90 working days within 18 five day academic weeks.

The structure of the courses is as follows:

2. Examinations

The evaluation of each course shall contain two parts:

  1. Internal or In-semester Assessment (ISA)
  2. External or End-semester Assessment (ESA)

Internal to external assessment ratio shall be 1:4. There shall be a maximum of 80 marks for external and maximum of 20 marks for internal evaluation.

Grades are given on a 07- point scale as given below

A separate minimum of 30 % marks each for internal and external (for both Theory & Practical) and aggregate minimum of 40 % are required for a pass for a course. For a pass in a programme a separate minimum of Grade E is required for all the individual courses. If a candidate secures F Grade for any one of the courses offered in a Semester / Programme only F Grade will be awarded for that Semester / Programme until he / she improves this to E Grade or above within the permitted period. Candidates who secures E Grade and above will be eligible for higher studies.

The external examination of all semesters shall be conducted by the University and the end of each semester. Internal evaluation is to be done continuous assessment. Marks distribution of external and internal assessments and the components for internal evaluation with their marks are shown below:

4. Assignments

Assignments are to be done from 1st to 4th semesters. At least one assingement should be done in each semester.

5. Seminar /Viva voce

A student shall present a seminar in the 5th semester and appear for viva - voce in the 6th semester.

6. Internal assessment for Practicals

At least one internal test - paper is to be attended in each semester for each course. The evaluations of all components are to be published and are to be acknowledged by the candidates. All documents of internal assessments are to be kept in the college for two years and shall be made available for verification by the university. The responsibility of evaluating the internal assessment is vested on the teachers), who teach the course.

7. External Examination

The external examination of all semesters shall be conducted by the University at the end of each semester.

Students having a minumim of 75% average attendance for all the courses only can register for the examination. Condonation of shortage of attendance to a maximum of 10 days or 50 hours in a semester subject to am maximum of 2 times during the whole period of the programme may be granted by the university on a valid grounds. This condition shall not be counted for internal assessment.

Benefit of attendance may be granted to students attending University / College union / Co-curricular activities by treating them as present for the days of absence, on production of participation / attendance certificates, within one week from competent authorities and endorsed by the Head of the Institution. This is limited to a maximum of 10 days per semester and this benefit shall be considered for internal assessment also.

Those students who are not eligible even with condonation of shortage of attendance shall repeat the course along with the next batch.

Course Regulation-CSSS

Internal evaluation is to be done by continuous assessments on the following components. Components of the internal evaluation and their weights are as below

3. Assignments: Every student assignment shall submit one per course

4. Seminar/Viva: The student has to take a minimum of 1 seminar per course

5. Class test: A minimum of 2 class tests are to be attended. The weighted average shall be taken for awarding the grade.

6. The evaluation of all components are to be published and are to be acknowledged by the candidate. All documents of internal assessments are to be kept in the college for 2 years and shall be made available for verification by the university. The responsibility of evaluating the internal assessment is vested on the teacher(s) who teach the course.

7. The college council shall nominate a senior teacher as coordinator internal evaluations. The coordinator shall make arrangements for giving awareness of the internal evaluation components to students immediately after commencement of 1 semester.

8. The evaluation or the internal components should reach the university before II week of October - April

EXTERNAL EXAMINATION

1. The external examination of all semesters shall be conducted by the university on the close of each semester.

2. Students having a minimum of 75% average attendance for all the courses only can register for the examination. Condonation of shortage of attendance to a maximum of 1 0 days or 50 hour in a semester subjected to a maximum or 2 times during the whole period of the programme may be granted by the university on valid grounds. This condonation shall not be counted for internal assessment.

3. All students are to do a project. This project can be done individually or as a group of 3 students. The projects are to be identified during the II semester of the programme with the help of the supervising teacher. The report ut the project in duplicate are to be submitted to the department at the sixth semester and are to be produced before the examiners appointed by the university.

4. There will be no supplementary exams. For reappearance / improvement. students can appear along with the next batch.

5. A student who register his/her name for the external exam for a semester will be eligible for promotion to the next semester.

6. All programmes and courses shall have unique alphanumeric code. Each teachers working in affiliated institutions shall have a unique identification number and this no. is to be attached with the codes of the courses for which he/she can perform examination duty.

Admission Procedure

  • Application forms duly filled in may be sent to the principal so as to reach him on or before the last date.Incomplete applications will be rejected.
  • Those awaiting the results should file their applications before the last date and submit their results when declared. In all subsequent enquires regarding admission, the serial number at the top of the application form should be quoted.
  • Admission to various courses will be made as per the following schedule 40% general merit, 20%community merit, 20% in SC/ST merit and 20% management.
  • In case the application is favourably considered an intimation card will be sent calling the applicant for an interview. However this card does not guarantee admission.
  • For the interview the applicant should be accompanied by parents/guardian. After the interview if admission is secured the applicant should get enrolled paying the required fees.
  • For those coming from universities outside Kerala should produce eligibility certificate from M.G University at the time of interview. Migration certificate is necessary in the case of students who have passed from any university other than M.G University.

The following documents are to be produced at the time of the interview:

  • Original MarkList of Qualifying Examinations.
  • T.C (Original) and copy of S.S.L.C/C.B.S.E/I.C.S.E/Degree mark list.
  • Conduct certificate (Original).
  • Community Certificate(for SC,ST,OEC) from Thahasildar.
  • Certificate if any in NCC/NSS/Sports.
  • Eligibility Certificate.

Our Culture

  • Students and staff in the college shall co-operate with the college authorities to ensure peaceful atmosphere congenial to the academic activities and overall development of the students and for the maintenance of discipline in the campus.

  • Every student should behave and conduct himself/herself both inside and outside the College in a becoming and gentlemanly manner. He/She should be neat and tidy in dress and person. Students should be courteous to one another and to the members of the staff. All traces of vulgarity should be erased from their conversation and behaviour. Smoking in the College campus and tucking up dhothies are strictly forbidden.

  • Politeness requires that when a student, meets members of the teaching staff or superiors for the first time during the day he/she should greet them in an appropriate manner.

  • Every student should carry his/her identity card and produce it on demand by the authorities or persons authorised to do that.

  • Unauthorised entry of outsiders into the campus is strictly prohibited. Unless permitted by the college authorities students shall not bring or entertain outsiders within the campus.

  • No one shall distribute or circulate any notice, pamphlet, leaflet etc within the campus and shall exhibit any type of banners, flags, posters, notices etc within the campus without the prior sanction of the principal.

  • No one shall stick bills, posters or scribble on any part of the building, compound wall, any wall, blackboards or furniture.

  • Students should attend classes regularly and secure a minimum of 75% attendance in order to be eligible to appear for the University examinations. Absence on any day shall be with the prior intimation to the class teacher and if that is not possible, an application for leave for the period of absence shall be submitted to the class teacher on the very first day of his/her return to the college giving reasons thereof, endorsed by the parents with relevant documents such as medical certificates etc. The Principal is the sole authority to grant leave for such absence based on the recommendation of the Head of the Department.

  • Only if a student secure a minimum of 75% attendance during an academic year shall be eligible to continue the course of study during the succeeding academic year.

  • Any Student who is persistently insolent or insubordinate or willfully and repeatedly commits mischief or is guilty of fraud or malpractice or who in the opinion of the Principal is likely to have an unwholesome influence on his fellow students or tarnish the reputation of the institution shall be removed from the rolls. The removal shall be either temporary or permanent subject to the gravity of the misconduct.

  • Nobody shall collect money from others either by request or by coercion in the campus except by specific permission of the Principal.

  • All are strictly prohibited from taking part or participating in any agitation, demonstration, strike, dharna, gharao, or bearing any kind of flags or badges and such other activities which will disturb the classes or cause threat to the peaceful atmosphere of the college campus. No political activities shall be permitted in the campus.

  • Students are strictly prohibited from bringing two wheelers inside the college campus except to the parking space provided near the front gate.

  • Students are strictly prohibited from bringing mobile phones inside the college campus.

  • In case the students have any grievance or complaint they shall approach the class teacher/tutor first. If they are not satisfied they may approach the Head of the Department and then if needed appeal to the Principal. The Principal at his discretion refer any matter regarding discipline to a Grievance Redressal Committee consisting of the Manager, the Principal, the concerned Head of the Department and one Staff member nominated by the Principal.

  • All expressions of the activities which are immoral, antisocial, communal and antinational are strictly prohibited in the college campus.

  • The students Union shall strive to attain the following objectives:

    1. To train students of the college in the duties, responsibilities and rights of citizenship.

    2. To promote opportunities for the development of character, leadership, efficiency, knowledge and spirit of service among students.

    3. To organize debates, seminars, work squads, touring parties and such other functions.

    4. To encourage sports, arts and other cultural, social or recreational activities that are incidental and conducive to the above objectives.

  • Principal or other constituted College authorities may frame and issue from time to time disciplinary rules of permanent or temporary character for regulating the conduct of students.

  • The Principal shall be the final authority in the interpretation of the College Rules.

  • Use of mobile phone is not allowed in the campus.

  • Students are strictly warned not to indulge in ragging. Students indulging in ragging will be summarily punished.

 

Attendance and Absence

  • The working day is divided into 3 periods in the morning session and 2 periods in the evening session.

  • Attendance will be taken at the beginning of each period. If a student is absent in one period in any one of the sessions he/she will lose 1/2 days attendance.

  • Leave of absence for a period or for a portion of it may be obtained from the Lecturer concerned. Leave for several periods must be obtained from the Principal in writing and in advance. No leave will be granted unless the Principal is satisfied with the reason.’

  • Students shall not take leave of absence unless it is absolutely necessary. By irregularity in attendance they run the risk of not securing the required number of term days to appear for the University Examination.

  • The annual certificate of attendance and progress required by the University for admission to the University Examinations will in no case be granted unless :

    1. The student has secured not less than three fourths of the total number of the working days in the academic year.

    2. The Principal considers that the student’s progress and conduct have been satisfactory.

 

Test and Examinations

  • All students are to appear for the examination and tests arranged by the departments. Students who cannot attend the tests / examinations should get prior sanction from the principal.

  • There will be an entry level test for I DC students for assuring their knowledge and skill. The entry level test will be normally conducted during the first week of the academic year.

  • There will be two internal exams to evaluate the progress of the students, in addition to monthly test conducted by the departments.

Fee Regulations

  1. Tuition fees will be collected either in lump at the beginning of the year or in instalments at the beginning of each term or semester as the case may be.
  2. Fine for belated payment of tuition fees. Within 10 days from due date ₹ 5 and after 10 days ₹ 10.
  3. Fee must be paid on the dates fixed in the Calendar for the purpose.
  4. If the fees and fine of an instalment are not paid before the last date given for payment of that instalment, the name of the student will be removed from the rolls of the college with effect from the date following the expiry of the period and the student will not get the benefit of attendance from the date of removal from the rolls of the college. If the student is to be readmitted he/she has to apply for the special permission of the Principal and also has to remit all the arrears of fees with fine. ₹ 50 as Re-admission fee will be levied in such cases of re-admission. The readmitted students will get the benefit of attendance only from the date of readmission.
  5. The last opportunity for the payment of an instalment of fee mentioned above is designed as the last working day previous to the due date of the succeeding instalment. But in the case of the last instalment, ie., the fee due for February, the last opportunity is fixed as the 5th March, if the 5th of March happens to be a holiday, then the last working day previous to such date will be considered as the last opportunity ( A student will be admitted to a new term only if he clears the dues of the previous term ).
  6. Every student is liable to pay the prescribed fee for the whole term during part of which his/her name is on the rolls of the College.
  7. Each instalment of fees shall be paid on the dates notified in the Calendar. All cash transactions will be closed at 2 p.m. everday.
  8. A receipt signed by the Accountant shall be granted for every payment made, which the student shall preserve and produce whenever required by the Principal.
  9. Mistakes if any, in the receipts issued for payments made should be pointed out then and there and should be got corrected on the spot. Complaints made later will not be entertained.

Refund of Fees

Refund of fees including special fees once remitted will not be granted to those students who had already paid the tuition and other special fees for one particular course in an Arts & Science College or Sanskrit College and who joins another professional or Technical College or Institutions offering a different course of instruction and not coming under the Director of Collegiate Education or under the Scheme of Direct Payment.

In respect of the Private Arts & Science Colleges coming under the Direct Payment system, the respective Zonal Deputy Directors of Collegiate Education are empowered to sanction refund of fees.

Wherever the term ‘fees’ is mentioned, it means “Tuition fees” alone.

If any eligible Backward Community students had paid their fees at the time of joining the College and such fees had been remitted into the treasury, the amount of fees so paid will be got reimbursed by the Harijan Welfare Department.

Every year the most outstanding outgoing student will be selected from the final year classes and the Best Student Award will be given. Each department can nominate maximum 2 students for the award. A committee will select one student for the award from among the nominated students.
